Q: You’ve been a NAVHDA Registered breeding kennel since 1999, yet you have had relatively few litters? |
A: I’ve known I wanted to breed dogs almost from the beginning. First I had to learn what I didn’t know and “pay my dues” with the breed. It’s been a labor of love. I have fixed three bitches and one dog since 1998 because they didn’t meet my standards. The decision not to breed can be the hardest call to make. It’s not that they aren’t good dogs with nice pedigrees; just that they had traits that don’t need to be carried forward in the breed. Dove was the first dog I’ve owned that I considered breeding material.
