Colt was my first hunting dog.  He and I have "grown up" together.  He and I literally learned about hunting birds from each other.  Although he was the runt of his litter, he didn't take crap from his siblings.  I liked the little guy.

Colt absorbed my inexperienced, inconsistent and insufficient training about as well as could be expected.  I sent him to my friend, John Murphy, to finish the training that I could not.  Colt is now an even and reliable bird dog (though he still has steadiness issues, which I contribute to).

I hunt Colt with new people, near roads, and whenever I NEED to produce a bird.  I hardly talk to him at all in the woods.

Now that Colt is 7, and I am 35, we are going gray together too.
